Five buildings, measuring over 2,000 ft. in length, connect end-to-end to form the heart of the mill. More than 3,000 tons of steel were shipped for the main buildings and 12 secondary structures. The design had to meet strict clearance requirements for equipment, utility trays and cranes. A custom engineered metal building system provided greater flexibility and cost savings over other con-struction methods. It also lent itself more readily to the project's logistical requirements for delivering materials to the site, erecting the system elements and staging work as it progressed. The project was completed in just ten months and added to Garco's strong reputation for providing so-phisticated heavily engineered buildings for use in heavy industrial applications.
